Chemical Guys HydroSlick hyperwax is a new product that claims to offer the benefits of a ceramic coating with the ease of use of a wax. It uses SiO2 gel technology to create a durable, glossy, and hydrophobic layer on your car's paint. However, it also has some drawbacks that make it less than ideal for some users. In this review, I will evaluate the product based on five main criteria: application, performance, durability, maintenance, and value.

**Application**
HydroSlick hyperwax comes in a 16 oz bottle and is a semi-solid gel that you have to squeeze onto an applicator pad. Chemical Guys recommend using only 4 to 5 dots of the formula per panel, meaning it's pretty concentrated. You have to apply it in a thin and even layer, and then buff it off with a microfiber towel after 30 seconds. The product is easy to spread and wipe off, and does not leave any streaks or residue. However, you have to work quickly and avoid direct sunlight, as the product can dry too fast and become difficult to remove. You also have to make sure the surface is clean and free of any wax or sealant before applying HydroSlick.
**Performance**
HydroSlick hyperwax promises to deliver a crystal-like superior shine, incredible reflective finish, and intense water beading. After applying the product, I noticed that the paint looked deeper, glossier, and more vibrant. The product also enhanced the metallic flakes and added a lot of clarity to the color. The surface felt very smooth and slick to the touch. The water behavior was impressive, as the product repelled water droplets and made them slide off the surface easily. The product also seemed to protect the paint from dirt, dust, and bird droppings, as they did not stick to the surface and were easy to wash off.
**Durability**
HydroSlick hyperwax claims to last up to one year with proper maintenance. This is much longer than most waxes, but shorter than some ceramic coatings. However, in my experience, the product did not last that long. After about three months of regular driving and washing, I noticed that the shine started to fade and the water beading became less pronounced. The product also did not prevent some swirl marks and scratches from appearing on the paint, which means that it did not offer much resistance against abrasion.
**Maintenance**
To maintain HydroSlick hyperwax, you have to wash your car regularly with a pH-neutral shampoo, such as Chemical Guys HydroSuds and avoid using any abrasive or harsh chemicals. You can also use Chemical Guys HydroSpeed as a quick detailer to boost the shine and protection. However, these products are not cheap, and they add up to a significant cost over time. You also have to reapply HydroSlick every few months to keep it looking good and performing well.
**Value**
HydroSlick hyperwax costs $39.99 for a 16 oz bottle, which is more expensive than most waxes, but cheaper than most ceramic coatings. Considering that you only need a small amount of product per application, and that it lasts up to one year (in theory), it might seem like a good value for money. However, you also have to factor in the cost of other products that you need to use with HydroSlick, such as HydroSuds shampoo ($17.99), HydroSpeed quick detailer ($24.99), and microfiber applicators ($6.99). These can add up to a significant amount over time.
Pros:
Easy to apply and remove
Enhances the shine, gloss, and clarity of the paint
Repels water and dirt
Protects against UV rays and environmental contaminants
Cons:
Not very scratch-resistant
Does not last as long as it claims
Requires regular maintenance with specific products
More expensive than most waxes
**Conclusion**
Chemical Guys HydroSlick hyperwax is a unique product that combines the best of both worlds: the shine and ease of use of a wax with the durability and hydrophobicity of a ceramic coating. It is easy to apply and remove, and it makes your car look amazing. However, it also has some drawbacks that make it less than ideal for some users. It is not very scratch-resistant, and it does not last as long as it claims. It also requires regular maintenance with specific products that are not cheap. Overall, I think HydroSlick hyperwax is a decent product for anyone who wants to try ceramic coating without the hassle or expense of professional installation, but it is not a game-changer or a miracle product. I would give it 3 stars out of 5.
